Searching for Phase-Locked Variations of the Emission-Line Profiles in Binary Be Stars
نویسندگان
چکیده
There is growing evidence that many Be stars are parts of binary systems. As the B-type primaries very fast rotators and their spectral lines may be distorted by circumstellar material, it not easy to measure radial velocity directly from lines. It has been shown some binaries exhibit peak intensity variations consisting double-peaked Hα phase-locked with orbital periods. We searched for such in spectra 12 stars, including several known suspected binaries. Our results include confirmation periods ν Geminorum, ϵ Capricorni, κ Draconis, 60 Cygni, V2119 its refinement o Puppis, as well suggesting hints binarity Aquarii, BK Camelopardalis, 10 Cassiopeae. Monitoring line profile β Canis Minoris over last years gives further support existence a 182.5-day period found earlier smaller set data. A similar but still preliminary (179.6 days) was ψ Persei. first time Geminorum exhibits emission ratio and, therefore, part inner this triple system. show mentioned observed more systems than previously can used search when application other methods inconclusive.

The Weak Emission Line Stars
In this paper, we study the evolution of the weak emission line central stars of planetary nebula (WELS), which are similar to the H-deficient Wolf-Rayet central stars except for systematically weaker emission lines. Our attempts at finding an evolutionary sequence for the WELS similar to what was established for Wolf-Rayet central stars, were unsuccessful. No correlation was found between any ...
متن کاملBloated Stars as AGN Broad Line Clouds: The Emission Line Profiles
The ‘Bloated Stars Scenario’ proposes that AGN broad line emission originates in the winds or envelopes of bloated stars (BS). Alexander and Netzer (1994) established that ∼ 5×10 BSs with dense, decelerating winds can reproduce the observed emission line spectrum and avoid rapid collisional destruction. Here, we use the observed properties of AGN line profiles to further constrain the model par...
متن کاملSpectropolarimetric Observations of Herbig Ae/be Stars. Ii. Comparison of Spectropolarimetric Surveys: Haebe, Be and Other Emission-line Stars
The polarization of light across individual spectral lines contains information about the circumstellar environment on very small spatial scales. We have obtained a large number of high precision, high resolution spectropolarimetric observations of Herbig Ae/Be, Classical Be and other emission-line stars collected on 117 nights of observations with the HiVIS spectropolarimeter at a resolution o...
متن کاملSearching for Line Profile Variability in HgMn Stars
Abstract. Spectra of four non-magnetic chemically peculiar late B type stars (HgMn) stars are analysed to detect periodic spectral line variations (LPVs). A procedure developed to study LPVs in Slowly Pulsating B stars has been adopted as pulsational properties of HgMn stars should be expected to be similar. In the preliminary results discussed here no conclusive evidence for periodic LPVs was ...
